Big life update here! I have known this update for a while, and I am so happy that I finally get to share! My husband, my adorable puppy, and I are moving!
I am no stranger to moving in the past few years. After graduating college, I moved to London, England. Unfortunately, due to Covid, my husband and I decided to move back to the United States. We moved to Georgia (my favorite state besides my home state of Michigan)! We currently live in Atlanta, Georgia. After living here for over year, I realized this incredible city has so much to offer, but it just wasn’t for me.
For as long as I can remember, I always thought that one day I would live in New York City. This past May, I took a job in NYC and moved. During this time, my husband was still living in Atlanta. We considered this time in NYC as a trial run to see if it was somewhere we wanted to make a permanent move to. While I love NYC with a fiery passion, I ultimately realized that it just wasn’t the place where my soul felt the most content, so I moved back to Atlanta.
One day it dawned on us exactly where we wanted to move. We were having an OH DUH moment! We had always loved this location, but unfortunately due to our careers it was never really possible to make the move. However, due to Covid and many jobs being remote, we can easily make the move now. We are moving to Savannah, Georgia! My favorite place in the United States and where I went to college. My husband and I could not be more excited! We are moving to Savannah sometime this upcoming summer. We are building a house, which will be a fun project for us (of course more on this to come)! Below is a picture of us in front of our homesite… Eeeeekkkk so exciting!
While I have moved a lot recently, there are a few things that I have learned along the way that I want to share to try to make someone else’s move less stressful!
One: Hire a moving company!
Previously, every time I moved, I rented a U-Haul and moved everything on my own with the help of my dad. He is going to thank me big time for hiring a professional moving company this go around! Moving my own stuff has caused some serious stress and an achy back! Moving comes with a lot of change and adjustment. Make your life easier and hire a moving company to make your exciting life change go so much smoother!
While we aren’t moving for a while, my husband is a serious planner. We already decided on the moving company we are using to make the move from Atlanta to Savannah. We are hiring Gameday Moving Services. When we were comparing moving companies, there was no doubt Gameday Moving Services was the best regarding quality, pricing, and reliability. I want to know that my belongings are in good hands! These labor movers in Athens, Georgia will treat your belongs like they are their own. There is a reason they have 5 stars on both Google and Facebook reviews!
Two: Delegating tasks will make your life so much easier. It’s okay to not always be in control!
I like to be in control, especially during big life changes. Due to this, I often have a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety. One way to relieve stress is by delegating tasks. This is a very hard concept for me! During the moving process, this can look like letting the movers wrap and pack instead of me. Or asking my husband to do things and not micromanage him when he does them lol. But most importantly it looks like staying calm and present in the moment! Each big life change comes with an exciting new opportunity.
Three: Home is where your people are
As a creative, where I live and my environment is very important to me. I need to feel inspired by my immediate surroundings. Being somewhere I don’t like definitely affects my mood and my well-being. Lately, I have been focused on finding the “perfect” location to live. However, what I ultimately realized is that the perfect location is wherever my little family is (shout out to my hubs and Reggie the mini cavapoo)! Yes, I know this sounds cheesy! But, after living alone in NYC, I realized that while everything else is very important, there is nothing more important than my family. Cherish your family and the ones you love above everything else!
I am so excited that I finally got to share the big moving news with all of y’all! Next life chapter: Savannah!
